Is University of the People legit?
With over 110,000 students, University of the People has become more than just an online-learning platform. It has gained university-level status. In fact when I applied to top Canadian universities, the degree from UoPeople was accepted as a legit degree. The students who completed their Associates degree from University of the People could transfer to Canadian universities like McGill University, Queens University, York University, McMaster University, Ryerson University, University of Waterloo provided they have a good GPA. I had the CGPA of 3.8 in the program Associates Degree in Computer Science. This allowed me to apply as a transfer student to all of the above universities. I was eligible to transfer credits too.
I have received offer of admissions from three universities. York University, Ryerson University and McMaster University (Global Rank: 77). York University has asked for my offical UoPeople transcript for the credit evaluation. They have stated that they will accept around 60 credits (2 years worth of credit) but after receiving the official transcript from UoPeople. I think sending official transcript from UoPeople will cost around 15 USD. And that's it.
I am waiting for one particular university (McGill). If I get accepted, I will update.
Why University of the People:
a) Cheaper degree
-- Where can you find an university where the annual tuition is only $1200/-. Moreover, it is not an tuition fee but an examination processing fee. You pay per course at the rate of $120 per course. If you take 10 courses per year, your total exam processing fee would be $1200.
b) Flexible
-- You can complete the degree from anywhere and at your free time. As there is no physical university, pandemic has no affect on this university. People who have jobs can study at their free time.
c) Accredited
-- It is accredited by DEAC. And universities have started to accept its degree. I myself applied to Canadian universities and all of them accepted the Associates Degree in Computer Science from University of the People.
d) At your own pace
-- You can complete the bachelors degree either in 2 years or in 4 years or in 6 years. It is up to you. You can complete the degree at your own pace.
e) Likely to gain Regional Status
-- UoPeople is on its way to gain regional WASC accreditation. If it gains this status, it will be as credible as any other physical university in U.S.
So, Is University of the People (uopeople) legit?
-- Yes, it's a legit and accredited online American University.
Is the degree legit?
-- Why NOT? It is accepted by reputable universities.
Please do not listen to the people who demotivate you by saying that Degree from UoPeople is worthless. These demotivating people are lazy fellows who won't progress in life and won't let you progress in life. Please stay away from them. I am sorry this blog is not attractive graphically. But I will try to make it attractive in the upcoming days.
Please COMMENT below if you have any further questions. I will try my best to reply to each and every comment.
Hello! I am also a student at UoPeople, Congratulations on your offers!
ReplyDeleteI hope you would clarify the McGill transfer, were you nominated by UoPeople themselves or are you going the solo approach?
I am going solo approach. I am waiting for McGill. I will update if I get opportunity of transferring into McGill.
DeleteHello Ashik, please how did you do the transfer process? I'm currently a student at the university of the people and I will be completing my associate degree in computer science by March 2023. I'm also looking forward to transfer to another university to complete my degree.
DeleteHello! I was wondering how applying to McGill is going for you? I am inspired by your experience and was wondering what course you're transferring to in McGill? How about the other universities?
ReplyDeleteThey asked for further documents. And I am waiting.
DeleteHow's your result of McGill University?
ReplyDeleteI am waiting. But I may go to York because it is in Toronto. McGill lies in Montreal where you need French to get by. Sadly, I don't have any skill in French.

ReplyDeleteI have an important question, please.
ReplyDeleteDid you have courses on Sophia? If yes, how many courses?! because I want to apply to McGill, but I am worried that I get turned down because that half of my courses are from Sophia...
I did all courses from UoPeople. As long as in the transcript, Sophia should not be a problem.
